Dr. Bateman is a retired minister of the United Church of Christ. He attended college in Tennessee,
his native state, graduated from Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY and holds a graduate degree in education from Indiana
University.
Following seminary, he served as a mission pastor for five years and as an army chaplain for twenty-two
years. Following military retirement, he served both as a pastor and regional representative of the United Church of Christ.
He retired from full-time ministry in 1998 and served as a half-time pastor of a Presbyterian church in North Carolina.
Dr. Bateman has lived in Uplands Retirement Village since 2003 and has two married daughters
and five grandchildren.
